Q&A With BlueTree Marketing Founder, Brian Rechtman
What inspired you to start BlueTree Marketing?
I wanted to create a company that was socially focused, something that made a positive impact while still being financially successful.
What makes your services different from competitors?
We really pride ourselves on delivering top-notch customer service every step of the way. From the moment an organization partners with, before the auction even starts, to the day of the event and even after when it’s time to book trips for the winning bidders. Whether someone needs to rebook, cancel, or just needs help with the details, we’re very hands-on. It’s all about making the experience smooth, special, and stress-free. We curate unique travel and experience packages that you won’t see anywhere else.
What is a non-negotiable in your routine that keeps you focused?
I try to make time for doing stuff outside of work whether it’s some form of cardio cardio exercise or weight lifting, to clear my head.
How do you define success?
Success to me is about finding something that you really enjoy, you can really believe in, and putting in all the effort that you can to make it the best it can be.
What’s a lesson you wish you had learned earlier on?
Hiring the right people to help you out. Most entrepreneurs try to wear multiple hats and do many jobs all at the same time. At some point, you need to bring the right people on to your team in order to help your business grow, if not the business will plateau.
What’s the toughest part of being a business owner?
Trying to figure out what is the best idea to pursue with limited time and resources.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
I would take chances. You only have one life to live, so go ahead and take that chance. Even if everyone says that’s not a good idea or not smart to do. You have one opportunity, so go ahead and do it!
Who were mentors that have encouraged you?
When I won the University of Miami Business Plan Competition, a couple board members were great mentors to me. As I continued to grow, my uncle has helped mentor me along the way.
What is your long-term vision for your business?
My long-term vision is to continue to grow and have a lot more non-profits and schools find out about us, so we can help them fundraise to make more money at their auction. I also want to hire more employees.
What’s next for your company in the coming months?
Find some more unique and innovative trips for event organizers and nonprofits to be able to choose from. I’m also hiring a new employee soon.
What trends are shaping your business today?
More people are finding out about consignment packages for their fundraisers. It might be a little challenging to acquire donations for auctions, so our consignment trips and experiences help fill those holes.
What are some fun facts about yourself you’d like to share?
I was a very competitive high-ranked junior tennis player in Florida. I’ve worked with over 10,000 charity auctions in all 50 States and Canada.
Do you have any favorite podcasts?
I listen to a lot of marketing / business related podcasts like Neil Patel, Alex Hormozi, Ken McElroy.
What do you do to recharge so you don’t burn out?
Exercise⎯whether it’s running a few miles, lifting weights, or getting out and playing tennis.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
I started my business completely from scratch—no outside investment, fully bootstrapped, and built it up through hard work and determination. Outside of work, my biggest accomplishment is becoming a father of two.
